Zena Hitz, a member of the editorial board of American Purpose, is a tutor at St. John’s College in Annapolis, where she teaches across the liberal arts. She is author of Lost in Thought (2020). Trained in classical philosophy, her essays defending liberal education and learning for its own sake have appeared in New Statesman, The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Tablet (UK), First Things, Modern Age and the Washington Post.
