Jean-Guillaume de Tocqueville has been a partner with the Gide Loyrette Nouel, a leading international law firm based in Paris, since 1993. He founded the Tocqueville Foundation in 2009 and is chair of the Tocqueville Conversations, promoting the heritage of Alexis de Tocqueville on democracy and human rights.

Laure Mandeville, a contributing editor of American Purpose, is a senior reporter with the French daily newspaper Le Figaro, where she specializes in foreign affairs and is responsible for the weekly page, “Debates around the world.” She was the paper’s U.S. bureau chief in Washington from 2008 to 2016 and the Russia bureau chief from 1997 to 2000. She is the co-founder of the Tocqueville Conversations.
